For athletes, Fascia Release is perfect for body maintenance whilst training, ensuring all muscles are firing and working equally and is also a great relaxer and rehab for after a competition. As this is not a deep, hard massage, so there is no exhaustion caused to the muscles.
As the connective tissue is what links each part of the body together each session is a full body massage. A gentle; hands on technique working with each client and their own pain level. The aim is to not inflict any more pain to the body, allowing you to relax, the mind to quieten and for a more effective result in releasing the distortions in the body’s connective tissue. Massage re-aligns the collagen fibers and the fibroblasts (cells of the connective tissue) produce fresh hyaluronic acid, new water replaces old water enabling the fascia to slide more effectively again.
Fascia is the body’s connective tissue that surrounds individual muscles, muscle bundles within individual muscles, groups of muscles, blood vessels, and nerves. Binding all these structures together, like ‘cling-wrap’. Consisting of several extremely thin layers that slide and glide over each other, Fascia is the tissue where the musculoskeletal system, circulatory system, and nervous system all unite. It runs from the top of the head to the tip of the toes running in multi-directional loops, and like ligaments and tendons, it contains closely packed bundles of wavy collagen fibers that are oriented in an organized and parallel fashion.
Distortions in the fascia can cause muscles, even organs, to not function at 100%; lengthen or shorten muscles; create compensation or tightness in the body, as well as inflammation and pain. It is prone to twisting, pulling or bending the body out of alignment making it difficult, even uncomfortable to keep a correct posture.
The elasticity and fluidity of our fascia is directly affected by stress, anxiety, pain and/or trauma. There are many factors that can cause distortions to the tissue, examples are: repetitive use, such as head bent down over laptop or phone; running, playing golf, and even tennis. Scar tissue is another huge influence.
The focus on treating the body as a whole in each session is to find the imbalance that opened you up for injury/pain in the first place. The foot cannot function without calf, knee or glute, just as these cannot function without the rest of the body. Issues that arise in the body now may not necessarily be from now or a few years back, but years of compensation in the body from an accident or injury that happened in your childhood.
